Leonor with Luis (John Bouma Photography)

Leonor is an expressionist artist who was born in Havana, Cuba. She immigrated with her family to the United States as a very young child. Today, she resides and works in Coconut Grove, FL. Her preferred mediums are oil and canvas and charcoal drawings. Leonor’s art reflects an uncompromising concern for the world, an ardent compassion for the human experience.

What is your dogs name and how did he come into your life? Luis is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel who is currently 10 months old. I found him through a reputable breeder in North Georgia who breeds her dogs in her own home and it is quite particular about her owners. She even flew her down to Miami with him because she refuses to put her dogs in the cargo department.

If you could ask your dog a single question what would your questions be and what do you imagine the response to be? If I could ask him a single question it would be, “How can I give back to you all the love that you unselfishly give to me every day? I think he would answer, “You are trying, and that is good enough!”

Who would play your dog in the movie of his life and why? Brad Pitt a la Meet Joe Black – beautiful, sweet, and new to this world. Let’s forget about the whole him being dead thing.

The premise of “Always Adopt, Never Buy” means what to you? I believe that it’s very easy for each and every one of us to become an Angel for Animals. We all need to take informed and compassionate action for the protection not only of our living planet but for all that encompass it. Through organizations like Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, The Great Ape Project, The Nature Conservancy, The World Wildlife Fund and The Jane Goodall Institute (just to mention a few that I am personally involved in), just a click of a mouse and a signature, your voice can be heard. In our every day life, we can also be activists by refusing to buy products that are tested on animals, not wearing real fur and being involved in community animal welfare activism. The rewards that one gets from being an active participant in the enhancement of our world far outweighs the time spent.

About Paws 4 You Rescue

Paws 4 You Rescue is a Miami-based non-profit 501(c)3, all volunteer, donor-subsidized animal rescue organization. Its top priority is to save animals from euthanasia at Miami-Dade Animal Services.

Rescued animals vary from being sick, injured, homeless and surrendered to simply lost. All animals are sterilized, vaccinated and ID micro-chipped to prevent future loss. Some require major surgery from a specialist to repair broken limbs while others may need additional rehabilitation time and specific medical care – ranging from respiratory illnesses and skin infections to cherry eyes and heartworm treatments.

Paws 4 You offers programs for adoption, fostering and senior citizens. Paws 4 You supports its mission by hosting numerous fundraising events throughout the year and through community donations.
