The aptly named Bloom Ballroom at Jungle Island came alive in a dazzling display of color and compassion during Cancer Link’s Hope Blooms in Pink luncheon, benefitting the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Against a backdrop of lush florals and heartfelt purpose, guests gathered to celebrate nearly four decades of unwavering commitment to breast cancer research, education, and community outreach. The afternoon was filled with elegance and inspiration, complete with a silent auction, raffle, and fashion show by Miami designer Julian Chang, who donated a portion of the proceeds to the cause.

Founded by Marlene Berg, after she lost a close friend to breast cancer, Cancer Link began as a small group of women determined to make a difference. What started as a grassroots effort has blossomed into a thriving force for good, raising nearly $4.5 million to support Sylvester—South Florida’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center and recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 50 cancer centers in the nation. Every dollar raised directly supports the physicians and scientists working to improve treatments and find a cure.

Each year, Cancer Link awards generous grants, enabling Sylvester’s world-renowned physicians and scientists to conduct innovative breast cancer research and pursue life-changing treatments for this devastating disease.

Recent grant recipients Alejandra Perez, M.D., medical director of the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at Sylvester – Plantation and associate professor of medical oncology at the Miller School of Medicine, and Frank Penedo, Ph.D. ’99, director of Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Care, Sylvester associate director for Population Sciences, and Sylvester DCC Living Proof Endowed Chair in Cancer Survivorship, expressed gratitude for Cancer Link’s vital support, which fuels research and strengthens survivorship programs for patients across South Florida.
