Around the World in 80 Works

French artist Alain Godon showcases in Design District

Alain Godon, Bernard Markowicz, C. McSilver

Markowicz Fine Art Gallery hosted internationally renowned painter and sculptor Alain Godon at an invitation-only, one-man exhibition, Around the World in Eighty Works. The exhibition featured new sculptures from Godon’s Architectural series, and was the first fine art event taking place at the “new” Miami Design District since Art Basel 2014.

Godon began his Architectural series in 2006. Since then, he has painted and sculpted the sites and spirit of many cities, including Paris, New York, Amsterdam and Miami. Each bronze sculpture is related to an existing painting, and a total of 80 artworks were on exhibit.

Picking up every characterizing detail that embodies an architectural structure, Godon has a very unusual method of looking at a building that he skillfully portrayed within the art piece. Each sculpture captures several structural points of view influenced by the building’s many angles, which are all placed on a three-dimensional image to expose the landmark design elements, expanding the architectural integrity. A powerful master of color, he captures the essence of a city with a fusion of expressive lines, vivid colors and playful imagination in his paintings. His work tells a hidden story uniquely personal, meant for interpretation by the viewer.

The exhibit will be open to the public Feb. 13-28 at the FAAM-Fine Arts Auction Miami gallery space at 80 NE 40th Street, Miami FL 33137. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 7 PM.
