Although recently, Capponi has used his influence to help those in Haiti following the country’s devastating earthquake through Project Medishare and the United Way. The mission, to which he is still committed, has not only raised money, but has also served as a learning experience about the power of giving and the need for proper oversight.

Christmas Cocktail
State Commissioner Lourdes Castillo de la Peña hosted a gathering at Zucchero Restaurant to celebrate the holidays and also the newly established Mentoring Committee by the Florida Committee on the Status of Women. The mission of the committee is to build up the leadership skills and self-esteem of young women in the State of Florida. Commissioner de la Peña serves on the Executive Committee of the Florida Committee on the Status of Women.
Simon Wiesenthal Center Reopening
Several hundred South Floridians celebrated the reopening of the Simon Wiesenthal Center Southern Region, and enjoyed the dramatic documentary Winston Churchill: Walking With Destiny, a deeply moving true story of one of the 20th century’s most celebrated figures. The film, which is being screened nationwide, was written by Rabbi Marvin Hier and Richard Trank and produced by Moriah’s Films, the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s two-time Academy Award-winning film production company. It is narrated by Sir Ben Kingsley, and recounts Churchill’s years in the political wilderness, his early opposition to Adolf Hitler and Nazism, and his support for Jews under threat by the Nazi regime.
