Travel back to the style of the 1960s — lava lamps, GoGo dancers and whoopie pies — as Doctors Hospital hosts its fundraising ball, Mad for Mod, on Saturday, May 18, at the Arena at Florida International University. Proceeds from the ball will benefit Doctors Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The evening will kick off at 7 p.m. with a reception, followed by dinner and dancing. Manny & Lory Castro’s Dance Town Miami Untouchables, of “America’s Got Talent” fame, will entertain guests. The event will feature live and silent auctions at which guests will have the opportunity to bid on an array of exciting items, including a week on The World Residences at Sea ship, a makeover from TLC’s “What Not To Wear” hair stylist Ted Gibson, a princess package complete with a Rene Ruiz gift certificate, jewelry from Neiman Marcus, a four night stay at the Azul Beach Hotel in Mexico and spa packages. The new, larger ICU will be a state-of-the-art space with the most sophisticated equipment. Each room will have 24-hour off-site electronic monitoring through the eICU LifeGuard program. With the renovation, physicians and staff will have the tools they need to continue to provide the highest-quality care to the most critically ill patients. Presented by Doctors Hospital Foundation and organized by community volunteers, the ball is chaired by Ilien and Keith Hechtman, M.D., with co-chairs Patricia and Carlos Garcia, Esq., and Abby and Jose Portuondo, M.D. The ball’s presenting sponsor is ER STAT Inc. Other sponsors include The Collection, Mark & Kambour, Inc., Neiman Marcus, Rene Ruiz, Ted Gibson Salon, Tiffany & Co., The Village of Merrick Park and The World Residences at Sea.
