8th Annual Champion of the Arts Luncheon
Citizens Interested in Arts hosted its 8th annual Champion of the Arts luncheon on January 24. The 200 guests at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables were greeted by Hollis Freimark, CIA’s president. It was Joseph Adler Day in the city according to the proclamation by Mayor Jim Cason to honor the Producing Artistic Director of GableStage who received the 2016 Champion of the Arts Award.
The proclamation was given to Adler by Dona Spain, Historical and Cultural Arts Director of the City of Coral Gables, and presented by Christine Dolen, South Florida’s best known theater reviewer. Lenore Toby Simmons, Event Chair, assisted by her Co-Chair, Denise Wolpert organized the Champion of the Arts event.
Held in the classic Alhambra Ballroom, the program emceed by Judy Scott Lotwin included entertainment by three groups who have received funding from Citizens Interested in Arts: Thomas Armour Ballet, New World School for the Arts, and Florida Grand Opera.
Grants totaling $83,000 were given to 25 arts organizations by Citizens Interested in Arts in 2016.
