Habitat For Humanity Completes Home #1,000 In Miami!

Home sponsored by Baptist Health of South Florida

Angelica, overcome with emotion at seeing her dream of home-ownership come true

In a very emotional ceremony on November 7, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami celebrated the completion of its 1000th home in Miami-Dade County. The organization, which builds homes in partnership with low income families, turned over the keys to house No. 1000 to Angelica Fernandez, who will live in the home with her son.

The home was sponsored by Baptist Health of South Florida, the 40th home that they have funded in Miami alone. In addition, Baptist volunteers provided the majority of volunteers for the completion of the house, which was built over the course of 12 Saturdays.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami identifies low income families who commit to working a minimum of 250 hours of sweat equity in building homes, including their own, in order to earn the opportunity to purchase the home with a Habitat provided zero percent mortgage. This simple yet successful model is the key to Habitat’s success. Habitat affiliates build in almost every community in America and also has operations in 71 countries worldwide.

The Fernandez family home is the latest to be built in Habitat’s 62-house Habitat Landings community in South Miami Heights.

They have also built communities in Homestead, Perrine, South Miami and Miami Gardens, plus more than 300 homes in Liberty City alone. Last year more than 7,000 volunteers participated in Habitat builds.

Habitat is currently planning its 2016 Blitz Build, an annual accelerated construction project in which 10 homes are built in two weeks by more than 1,500 volunteers. Sponsors and volunteers work alongside the partner families.

Congratulations to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami on this wonderful achievement!
