Black truffle pizza with fontina cheese at J&G Grill
Whether it’s a power lunch, or ladies who lunch, J&G Grill at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort is the spot. The second floor restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks both the ocean and the resort’s swimming pool. Few restaurants in the world offer such a magnificent view.
GM Laurent Vasseur runs a tight ship with impeccable service and a polished wait staff that refers to patrons by name. Chef de Cuisine Richard Gras just released the summer/fall lunch menu that has truly enchanting dishes. In addition to cuisine that adheres to the J&G brand, Chef Gras creates special dishes that are unique to the St. Regis – like fresh mussels in a Tai chili broth.
One Foodie Find that stands out is the specialty sodas and ice teas that are handmade on site. The Cherry Yuzu is a gourmet soda that is sweet and refreshing, made by combining Asian cherry puree, sugar and yuzu juice; and being that it is made on premises, a foodie knows that they are experiencing a drink unique to their palate. Other selections include the Sour Orange soda, Thyme Lemonade and Spicy Passion Fruit soda – all handmade.
For an appetizer, the Hamachi Sashimi, topped with Shiitake mushrooms and soy-ginger dressing is splendidly healthy and light.
But the real Foodie Find for lunch at J&G is the Black Truffle Pizza with Fontina Cheese. This decadent, thin crust pizza is perfect for sharing, or as a complete meal. The dish is made with black truffle oil, fontina cheese and topped with organic greens grown in south Miami. For an extra cost of $25, the pizza can include generous shavings of Australian Black Truffles that just came into season. They sell for $850 a pound. This dish turns an ordinary lunch into something special, and a special lunch into magnificent. It is a must try.
