Foodie Find: Fi’lia
In the SLS you can find modern Italian fare presented with great authenticity.
Fi’lia is the Italian eatery in the SLS offering an experience that’s modern and deliberate, yet presented with touches of home. Select the outdoor patio laced with amber tea lights or choose a table inside, in a modern dining room swathed in wood and then warmed by the greenery of hanging plants.
The meal starts with crusty bread but don’t fill up because the housemade (yes, on site) stracciatella is fresh and plated cheese that’s given complexity with truffle honey and cracked pepper. The Mediterranean mussels are served in a cast iron crock keeping them covered in the broth of white wine, basil and chili. Other starter or “primi” standouts eggplant spread served with crusty ciabatta and grilled Italian sausage. Also don’t miss the caesar with a thoughtful mix of lettuce varieties, anchovy in the lemon dressing and thick cut or try the arugula with gorgonzola, dried figs and hazelnuts.
The pizza and pasta dishes are old school authentic, with a major menu indulgent being the rigatoni Bolognese, which is meaty and flavorful with traditional veal, pork and beef ragu on top of large, wide pasta tubes. And the Sam’s chicken parm with mozzarella di bufala and marinara. There are also wood fired pizzas of great flavor proportion including a Margherita, 4 Cheese, carbonara, peperoni and cauliflower.
The real dinner delight here are the large grilled plates of meat, fish and vegetables. Choose from a half-chicken, whole grilled fish, lamb chops, bone in pork chop, a bistecca Fiorentina, salmon or a grilled vegetable board.
